Rehabilitation Counseling

Accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education, Inc

Course of Study

The University of Tennessee graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling is designed to prepare students for a professional career as clinicians in the field of rehabilitation. To equip students with the background essential to effective functioning as professional clinicians, the Master of Science Degree Program in Rehabilitation Counseling is service-oriented and includes practicum and internship experiences.

Due to the sequential nature of courses in the curriculum, incoming full-time students usually enroll for the fall semester and remain in the program for four (4) consecutive academic semesters. The first three (3) semesters (fall, spring, and summer) of the program are completed on campus, with the exception of on-site hours for spring practica. The last semester is completed at an off-campus internship site. Full-time students can expect to complete the program within sixteen (16) months. It is possible for part-time students to pursue a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling by completing requirements over a more extended period of time.

To complete the master’s degree program in Rehabilitation Counseling students must earn a minimum of forty-eight (48) semester hours of credit, including a research course. Courses are outlined in detail in the RCE Student Program Manual.
