Licensure Programs

Counselor Education — Ph.D.
The Ph.D. program in Counselor Education is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Graduates of the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education will work toward endorsement for counseling licensure, if licensure has not been received prior to entering the doctoral program. During the program doctoral students will review the necessary criteria for the license they seek and will plan their programs to meet those criteria.

Mental Health Counseling — M.S.
The Masters Program in Mental Health Counseling, a 60-semester hour program, is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Students enrolled in Mental Health Counseling complete a program, which includes core courses, clinical courses, and electives. Through careful selection of electives and individualized programming, students are able to develop the skills to work in settings that emphasize alcohol and drug abuse, children, youth, families, aging, career, employment, and correctional counseling. Graduates of the program will receive endorsement for licensure as a licensed professional counselor with mental health service provider designation (LPC) and for board certification by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).

School Counseling — M.S.
The purpose of this Master’s program is to assist selected graduate students to develop the necessary competencies to assume the major responsibilities of a counselor within pre-K through 12 schools.  The program, accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), will fulfill the licensure requirements for preK-12 school counseling in Tennessee and in most states of the United States.

School Psychology - Ed.S.
The program of study leading to the Ed.S. in School Psychology is accredited by the Tennessee State Department of Education, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and NCATE for preparation of school psychologists. Students completing all program requirements will fulfill the licensure requirement for K-12 school psychology in Tennessee and most states. Students should consult the licensure requirements of the states in which they are interested in being licensed and to match state requirements to their program of study.

School Psychology - Ph.D
The program of study leading to the Ph.D. is accredited or approved by the Tennessee State Department of Education, American Psychological Association, NASP and NCATE, for the preparation of school psychologists. Students completing all program requirements are eligible for licensure as a School Psychologist by the Tennessee State Department of Education. Additionally, the program meets training requirements for licensure by the Tennessee Board of Examiners in Psychology. Students should consult the licensure requirements of the states in which they are interested in being licensed and to match state requirements to their program of study.
