Higher Education Administration Program

Program Progress and Completion

The program requires the (1) completion of all course work; (2) completion of written and oral comprehensive examination (3.5 GPA required to take the comprehensive exam); and (3) completion and successful defense of the dissertation.

Student progress toward the degree will be assessed in the spring of each year by the program faculty. Students will be advised in writing of their progress: Good Standing, Good Standing/Action Needed, Probation, or Termination. Students who are issued a letter of termination for any reason (low academic standing, lack of progress, etc.) may appeal that decision before the program faculty.

After having completed one year of course work, students should select an advisor who will assist them in identifying a four-person faculty committee —to include the faculty advisor as chair — to guide the student’s work, to frame and evaluate the comprehensive examination, to approve the dissertation prospectus, and to evaluate the dissertation defense.

Residence

Residence requirements will be met by full-time enrollment during the first fall and spring semesters. A “community of scholars” will be encouraged via continuing seminars described in the Special Program Features section.
