Trena Paulus, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
I joined the EPC faculty at UT in 2003 after receiving my Ph.D. from Indiana University. My research interests include qualitative inquiry methodologies, particularly discourse analysis of collaborative online learning environments. I am currently working with faculty in Nutrition to see how blogs can be used to support informal learning for UT students. My first formal teaching experience was as a secondary school English teacher in Lesotho, Southern Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer from 1992-94. One of my favorite parts of the experience was learning to speak the Sesotho language. When I returned to the States I studied applied linguistics at Ohio University where I received my Master of Arts degree. I spent two years teaching ESL at Michigan State University before moving to Bloomington to do my doctoral work. I also have experience providing professional development in the area of technology-supported teaching and learning, most recently in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. I enjoy experiencing different cultures (Appalachian to Zimbabwean and everything in between) and the challenge of learning anything new. I live to be outdoors as much as possible (on land, not water - particularly hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking).
