Dr. Norma Mertz
Dr. Mertz is a professor of higher education administration and serves as Coordinator of the College Student Personnel Program. She teaches graduate courses in college student personnel, higher education, and educational administration, including values and ethics in educational leadership, curriculum and teaching in higher education, research design, and the CSP capstone seminar. In addition, Dr. Mertz directs masters theses and doctoral dissertations.
Dr. Mertz's research interests focus on gender and leadership, mentoring, and role socialization. She frequently presents research papers at annual meetings of AERA and UCEA, and has had recent publications in Education Administration Quarterly, The Journal of Women in Education, and Urban Education.
Dr. Mertz is the co-author of the newly published book, Theoretical Frameworks in Qualitative Research (with Dr. V. Anfara). She is currently working on a book about first-generation women in departments of educational administration (sponsored by the University Council for Educational Administration), and three research projects: one on the mentoring of junior faculty; another on the college choice of graduate students (with Dr. Terrell Strayhorn), and a third about how school principals select teachers.
