Luther Kindall

Associate Professor Emeritus (Retired 2002)

I have been a professor at The University of Tennessee for 28 years. My current research relates to cognitive and affective learning styles. The research is promoting an appreciation for differences and diversity. It demonstrates that there is no one way to learn, teach, instruct, or evaluate teachers or learners. The research is showing that certain learning styles are more compatible with various systems of psychology such as the behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic schools. It, therefore, demonstrates how the various orientations penalize some students and reward others. I have also made several presentations at international and national conferences on school violence, conflict resolution, and the African-American culture. I received several awards from the University, Tennessee State Legislature, and other community organizations for service to UT, the State, and the local community. I have also been selected "Outstanding Faculty of the year" by the UT Panhellenic and Greek Organization. I received several awards for being a founding member of the UT Black Faculty and Staff Association, The UT Commission for Blacks, and the Ron McNair Summer Mentoring Program. I have had many unique experiences in my life, but one of my most exciting adventures was when I ran for governor of the State of Tennessee in 1982.
