Donald Dickinson
Professor Emeritus
I have taught in the School Psychology Program for over 25 years
at The University of Tennessee and served as Director of the
program for many years. My interests have been in data-based
problem solving, consultations, student coping, and the influence
of parenting on achievement and behavior. Along with students
and faculty, I have developed several sets of materials that
can be used for research and for training of parents. These
can be found on my webpage and including the following:
1. The
Home Environment Profile (HEP). This is a parental questionnaire that measures
the parenting styles of Monitoring, Discipline, Problem Solving, Modeling Attitudes
and Behaviors, and Nurturing.
2. The
Academic and Social Coping Inventory (ASCI). This questionnaire measures
student coping in stressful school situations. It measure both adaptive and maladaptive
coping.
3. Easy
Readers. This is a program for children who have severe reading problems
and who have not responded well to phonics. It is based on the most frequently
used words in children’s literature up to the 9th grade. There are 30 stories
with worksheets available.
4. Parents
and Tutors. This is a consultation/workshop training program for use by school
psychologists and others in the training of parents. This program covers academic
as well as social/behavioral topics. This program matched the HEP.
