James DeVita was selected to participate in the 28th annual Graduate Student Policy Seminar to be held at the annual meeting of the Association for the Student of Higher Education in Louisville, Kentucky. The ASHE policy seminar is a highly competitive, highly prestigious opportunity that brings doctoral students in contact with leading policy scholars in the field of higher education. Students will learn about cutting-edge policy research innovative policy frameworks, and discuss their dissertation topics with experts and panelists. (10/8/2007)

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn and Fred C. McCall with present "Preventing Black Men from Dropping Out of College" at the 2007 ACPA/NASPA Joint Meeting to be held March 31-April 4, 2007 in Orlando, Florida.

DJ Baker and Fred McCall will present "The State of Back Greeks: Is There Still a Need?" at the 2007 ACPA/NASPA Joint Meeting to be held March 31-April 4, 2007 in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Terrell Strayhorn will serve as panelist during this session and speak to the role of Black Greeks in promoting student retention.

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, Ferlin McGaskey, and Shanna Pendergrast presented "Creating Inclusive Environments for African American Males in College" at the Scholarship of Diversity Conference at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, Dr. Jane Redmond, Ferlin McGaskey, Shanna Pendergrast, and Demetrius Richmond presented "African American Student Success programs in a Post-Geier Era" at the 53rd Annual National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP) Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Special thanks to other members of the team that contributed to the development of the presentation including DJ Baker, Chrissy Hannon, and Porche' Wynn.

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn has co-authored a paper with one of our CSP students, Amy Colvin, that appears in the most recent issue of Oracle: The Research Journal of the Association of Fraternity Advisors. Their article titled, "Assessing Learning and Development in Fraternity and Sorority Affairs," can be accessed through the journal's website here or in paper-form through the library. (9/20/2006)

Brooke Brown is currently working with Dr. Terrell Strayhorn on a grant-funded project to examine the influence of financial aid on graduate student persistence using a national sample. This research is funded through the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators' (NASFAA) Sponsored Research Program. (3/3/2006)
