Assistantship Opportunities
Graduate Assistantships
The Division of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and the Department of University Housing work closely with the CSP Program to provide internships, practicums, and paid graduate assistantships throughout the university. Students in the CSP Program who possess the requisite qualifications are given preferential consideration for these assistantships.
Graduate assistantships are typically ten to twelve month contracts, requiring approximately 20 hours of work each week. Remuneration packages typically include a monthly stipend, university sponsored health insurance, and a full-tuition waiver (of both in-state and out-of-state tuition). These opportunities are highly competitive.
Assistantship opportunities vary from year to year. To give you an idea of the kind of GA positions that may be available, go to http://web.utk.edu/~edpsych/college_student_personnel/GAPositions.html. This website will be updated in January 2008.
2008 College Student Personnel - Graduate Assistant Recruitment Weekend
Sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, the College Student Personnel Program and the College Student Personnel Association
The College Student Personnel Association (CSPA), in conjunction with the CSP Faculty, and the Division of Student Affairs, invite applicants who have been admitted to the program or have a high probability of being admitted, to come to campus to interview for the assistantships known to be open. The 2008 interview weekend will be February 22-23rd, and is by invitation only. Those applicants invited to attend are asked to select the GA positions for which they would like to interview from a list of the available positions provided to them as part of the invitation. Once admitted, you will receive detailed information via email on this process.
Those who are unable to attend the interview weekend may still be able to find an assistantship, but the options will be fewer, and the applicant will bear primary responsibility for finding the assistantship.
Throughout the weekend candidates have the opportunity to interview for potential assistantships, attend a CSP class, meet the faculty, tour campus and the Knoxville Community, and attend social events with current CSP Students. The Department of University Housing is also willing to accommodate any candidates in on-campus guest apartments for your convenience. An updated schedule of the weekend will be posted in January .
