Programmatically, Bob is affiliated with Human Services, Mental Health Counseling, and Counselor Education. The courses he typically teaches include HS 220 “Introduction to Human Services,” HS 420 “Human Services Methodologies II,” HS 430 “Working Within the System,” University Honors 337 “Honors: Concentration in the Humanities,” and University Honors 347 “Honors: Concentration in the Social Sciences.” Bob’s principal research focus is full service schools. He currently serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Sociologist and Social Welfare. He has held leadership positions in the Holmes Group and U.N.I.T.E. Bob has authored four books, all of which relate in part to serving the needs of children (especially those at risk) through full service schools. His most recent book (2002) is entitled Full Service Schools: A Place for Our Children and Families to Learn and Be Healthy. He also has contributed a number of articles to professional journals such as Journal of Offender Rehabilitation. He presented several papers in recent years at state, regional, and national conferences, including the American Educational Research Association. He is recognized both in academic and political circles as an expert on full-service schools and an advocate for at-risk children. For example, he has appeared on Leeza Gibbons’ national TV show to discuss child abuse. Bob has received both the University of Tennessee Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award and the Harry C. Merrill Research Award. Bob’s major leisure interests are tennis and biking.
