Christopher H. Skinner, Ph.D.

Professor

I am the first (1989) graduate of the Ph.D. School Psychology program at Lehigh University. I worked as an assistant professor at The University of Alabama for 3 years and served as coordinator of School Psychology Programs at Mississippi State University for 7 years, before I accepted the position of Coordinator of School Psychology Programs and The University of Tennessee in 2000. I am an APA Fellow and Lightner Witmer award winner. I co-edit The Journal of Behavioral Education. Most of my researcher efforts involve collaboration with my students. We have published over 80 refereed journal articles and numerous book chapters. My research focuses on developing behavioral theory and procedures and applying these procedures in educational settings in order to prevent and remedy students' social, emotional, and academic problems. My students and I are currently working on research designed to a) measure and improve reading comprehension skills, b) encourage prosocial behaviors, c) enhance mathematics fluency, and d) improve students' perceptions of academic assignments. Other areas of interest include behavioral assessment, single-subject research designs, school psychology, and applied behavior analysis. I love my job. I also enjoy playing racquet sports.
