Seattle Convention News

The Annual CEC Convention and Expo was held in Seattle from April 1—5, 2009. DPHD held our annual Executive Board Meeting, General Business Meeting, and three committee meetings (Critical Issues & Leadership, Membership, Home and Hospital Placements/Severe and Multiple Disabilities).  Please check out our Facebook page for a few pictures from the convention:

Information About Convention (before the convention)

The Annual CEC Convention and Expo will be held in Seattle from April 1—5, 2009.  We hope you will join us there.  Please see the CEC Convention Page to register for the event. 

DPHD is sponsoring eight lectures, four demonstrations, and seven poster sessions – ranging for music to math to written language instruction to specific disability conditions.  Please see below for more information about the sessions DPHD is sponsoring at this year’s convention: 

DPHD’s Showcase Session: 

A Model for Promoting Self-Determination in Students With Disabilities

Abstract:   Self-determination is necessary for individuals with disabilities to transition to quality adult living. This session first provides insights into the importance of self-determination from the perspectives of 12 adults with physical disabilities. Second, a strategy model is presented for special education professionals to use to foster self-determination in their students.  (11071)
