Deby's Classes/Workshops/Music
I'm an advanced-level player, having purchased
my first dulcimer in July 2002. With encouragement
from June Goforth of the Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club (KADC), I started leading
some classes in 2006. Below is a list of the classes I've done and what is
planned so far. If you are interested in having me lead a
class or workshop for your club, or in obtaining my arrangements, original
tunes, or workshop handouts, send me an
email.
Also, check out my ad in the instructional materials area of the Marketplace on
www.everythingdulcimer.com and
for a couple of excerpts from my handouts in the free tabulature area of ED- thank you! Deby Libby

I Thank God For You
| Cover I Thank God
For You.pdf |
A song I wrote that was played by Dogwood Dulcimers & Friends at
the November 7, 2004 service at
Bethel UMC. Also played on open stage at the KADC Retreat, November 2006. Strummed melody and harmony parts.
Song developed after attending workshops with Maureen Sellers where old
songs that replaced the word brother with sister, etc. on each verse was
discussed, and also after attending a workshop with Joe Collins on chord
transitioning. Have made greeting cards with different covers and
the message inside being part of the song lyrics. Also have made
bookmarks that have the same cover design as the greeting cards. |

Pot Luck Cabbage
| Cover Pot Luck
Cabbage.pdf |
In "Pot Luck Cabbage" everyone brings a different "dish" (part) to the
"dinner" (musical feast). This arrangement was inspired by June Goforth at a
KADC playout practice, when she asked just how many ways did participants know
how to play "Cabbage"? This was too much fun! I started making
up different ways to play Cabbage and put them in a recipe book, giving
each version a name like Hawaiian Cole Slaw, Hot Pickled Cabbage,
Cabbage & Noodles, etc. Endings (dessert) are also included like
Cabbage Pudding and Crawling Cabbage. Serving Suggestions
(arrangement ideas) are also included. Passed out this arrangement to Intermediate Lap class at Knoxville Area
Dulcimer Club meeting on Sunday, August 13, 2006 (to be used as reference) and
parts of it have been used by other KADC members to lead beginner
classes.

Cross-picked Tab
| "My Cheatin' Parts" |
After attending a couple of workshops on cross-picking, I was inspired to try and
re-work several tunes I already knew with alternate tab that would increase my
speed/efficiency. I came up with a color-coded table (see Cross-Picking
Table above) that is laid out like a fret board to help me
find the same notes in different places.
Taught excerpts from this handout in progress to the
Novice class at KADC on April 22, 2007. |
