Dogwood Dulcimers & Friends

Who We Are

Dogwood Dulcimers & Friends is a musical group composed of about eight members. Included in this group are several lap (also known as mountain, Appalachian, or fretted) dulcimer players, and those that play the banjammer, flute, hammered dulcimer, guitar, penny whistle, and rhythm instruments. We also have several friends who help us out by singing along with the music we play, which is mostly traditional folk and hymns.

We are willing to play for any type of occasion. We have played at the : Cosby Ramp Festival, Apple Pickin' Festival at Holloway's Quilt Shop in Cosby, On Cosby Fall Moonshine Festival, Cosby in the Park, Holston River Festival (part of the Dogwood Arts Festival), Pigeon Forge Craft Festival, Ramsey House, Heritage Days at The Old Mill (Pigeon Forge), Newport Harvest Street Festival, Flag Day (Mosheim, TN), Parrotsville Heritage Days, Bethel United Methodist Church in Seymour and several other churches in the area. Several members of our group have also played at nursing and care facilities in the area, and are involved in other musical groups as well. In addition, three of our members played at the University of Tennessee Book & Supply Store at two book signing events.

In our travels we have encountered many people who have never seen a dulcimer before -- what fun it has been to introduce them to it! It would be our pleasure to play for you and share what we have learned about our instruments and traditional folk music. Please contact us to check on our availability and to schedule us for your event!

Dogwood Dulcimers & Friends lost a member and a dear friend on Sunday, July 1, 2007, when Fred "Stick Man" Cooper passed away.  Fred was a proud veteran and was he ever full of stories!  He will be sorely missed by all.
