The Delta Zeta Creed:
To the world,
I promise temperance, insight, and courage
To crusade for justice,
To seek the truth and defend it always.
To those whom my life may touch in slight measure,
May I give graciously of what is mine.
To my friends, understanding and appreciation,
To those closer ones, love that is ever steadfast,
To my mind, growth
To myself, faith
That I may walk truly in the light of the flame.

Delta Zeta was founded on October 24, 1902 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
The sorority was founded by six exceptional women; Julia Bishop,
Anne Simmons, Mary Jane Collins, Mabelle Minton, Anna Keen, and Alfa Lloyd. Under the
Guidance of Dr. Guy Benton, Delta Zeta, the first sorority at
Miami
University, was created less than two weeks after these women
arrived at the
school. On September 24, 1902, the six women chose to name their sorority Alpha of Delta Zeta and their colors to be old rose and Nile green. The Delta
Zeta sorority was officially incorporated on October 24, 1902
(which just
happened to be Alfa Lloyd's Birthday).
Today, the dream of those
six women
lives on. Delta Zeta is now the second largest national sorority
consisting of
over 170 collegiate chapters and 250 alumnae chapters. Delta
Zeta even has
collegiate chapters in Europe, making it the largest
international sorority!
Delta Zeta celebrated its 100th birthday on October 24, 2002!
The Beta Lambda chapter of Delta Zeta was founded at The
University of
Tennessee in 1933. |
