FTP USING FETCH FOR MACINTOSH
NOTE: Read the following instructions carefully. Don't be discouraged by
their length. The process is not difficult and every effort has been made to
attend to detail.
Downloading FETCH
- Download FETCH from our FETCH DOWNLOAD
AREA.
- This file is self-extracting if you have Stuffit-Lite 3.5 on your computer.
If you do not have Stuffit-Lite you may get it from:

- Install FETCH on your hard drive.
Configuring FETCH

3. If you explore FETCH you will see that you will be able to SAVE
this configuration for future use as either a BOOKMARK or SHORTCUT
in FETCH. Explore a bit and find that feature.
4. Once FETCH is configured--click OK
5. You will connect directly into your specific account.
6. NOW You are in your public_html directory--and this is area
to upload your files to.
Uploading Files with FETCH
1. REMEMBER!! All TEXT files, those ending in .htm or .html,
must be SENT TO [PUT] the server by selecting TEXT send
mode.
2. REMEMBER!! All GRAPHIC files, those ending in .gif or .jpg
must be SENT TO [PUT] the server by selecting RAW
DATA send mode.
3. To UPLOAD files from your MAC to funnelweb do the
following:
- select PUT FILE
- you will get a dialogue box asking you where the file is--go
find it the way you would on any MAC.
- HIGHLIGHT the file(s) you want to upload and tell it
to OPEN
- you will get a PUT FILE dialogue box
- if the file is a .htm or .html file select TEXT to transfer
(if it is not already selected by default) and tell FETCH OK
- if the
file is a .gif or .jpg file use the dialogue box to select FORMAT: RAW
DATA and tell FETCH OK.
4. That's all there is to it!! You have now UPLOADED a file to
your area of the Funnelweb Server--directly into the public_html area--and
it will display in Netscape when you enter your URL into the Location Box of Netscape.
Downloading Files with FETCH
1. To DOWNLOAD files from Funnelweb to your MAC do the following:
- HIGHLIGHT the file(s) you wish to download from Funnelweb to your
MAC.
- select GET FILE
REMEMBER!! All .htm and .htm files must be transfered as text or ASCII. All .gif or .jpg files must be transfered BINARY.
NOTE: You are correct--the transfer mode for graphic files differs and is dependent on whether you are UPLOADING or DOWNLOADING when using FETCH.
- you will get a DIALOGUE BOX asking you WHERE on your MAC
you wish to save the file and an opportunity to change the file name if you choose.
- once you have determined this information click OK.
NOTE: IGNORE the TYPE: and CREATOR: dialogue
selections when transferring .gif and .jpg files UNLESS you WANT
to change the file type from .gif or .jpg to some other file format.
You will only see these selection areas when downloading
images.
- your file will be automatically downloaded to the area of your
MACyou designated, with the file name you gave it, in the proper
format for text or graphic files.
Additional Tips
1. Tools for:
- deleting files from the server
- renaming files
- transferring entire folders of files
- viewing file contents while they are on the server
are located under REMOTE in the FETCH menu.
2. You may create "SHORTCUTS" by going to NEW SHORTCUT under the
CUSTOMIZE in the FETCH menu. This permits you to save your
configurations permanently and you can then connect to your account on Voyager
through the OPEN SHORTCUT command under FILE in the FETCH
menu.
