1996 8th Annual Monkey Bowl, First Place, B-Division

Knoxville won the B division first place trophy at the 8th annual Monkey Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee. Pretty cool trophy made out of wood. David "Grady" Ricard held onto this trophy until he left Knoxville in August of 1997, and with good reason. Grady was the catalyst of our second half performance in the finals of the B-division game. We were pretty tired by this point in the weekend, and just needed a reason to get fired up. Grady gave us that reason. An all time tournament highlight for me. Our second half had just started, but the A division game was under way on the next field. Most people were watching the A division game. Grady was about to put the disc into play from our own goal line, and said "wait a minute" to his defender. Grady walks off the field, turns away from everyone, whips his jock off and puts it in his back pocket. We were so fired up at that point, there was no stopping us. The other team didn't score again! He said he was waiting for an opportunity to spike the jock in the endzone, but it never came up.

Certainly, Monkey Bowl is a special tournament for us. It always was, being so close, and run by our Nashville brothers. But, since our last minutes with Shawn were at this tournament, it makes it that much more important to us.
