Knoxville Area Ultimate Schedule |
The following are locations and times of Ultimate practices and open pick-up in Knoxville. I will try to keep this as up to date as possible. Please be aware that special events (such as out of town tournaments or holidays) could cause a scrimmage to be canceled, so please contact the appropriate person below to verify a time and place. All times listed below are SUPPOSED to be Eastern Time (NOT "Frisbee Time": see below for a definition of "Frisbee Time"). Scroll to the bottom of this page for driving directions to the fields. Everyone is welcome to join Knoxville's new co-ed team KULT for co-ed practice starting at 1pm SHARP until 2pm Sundays at Morningside Park. Skills, drills, stretching, strategy... the basic tournament prep things are central to this one hour. Anyone is welcome to attend ANY of the KULT practices regardless of interest in tournament playing. Please contact Jessica Payne at edinkira@yahoo.com for more information about KULT.
Everyone is also welcome to scrimmage at Morningside Park on Sunday afternoons. 2pm until? This is open pick-up that follows KULTs practice. Please bring a light and a dark shirt, and some water for yourself to drink.
There is also a KULT practice scheduled on Mondays from 5:30pm - 8:30pm at Morningside Park.
I can't keep up with they folks anymore, so please go to their web page to see when and where they practice. I'm not sure what is posted there is up to date, so please contact the club president, Graham Taylor at gtaylor4@utk.edu for accurate information. These practices are open to University of Tennessee students only.
The UT gals have graciously offered to let any and all women participate in their practices. They now have a web site: you can go to it by clicking HERE. "Frisbee Time" is a concept know well by most Ultimate players. Simply put, it means that Ultimate players can not show up anywhere on time. But the concept is actually very complex. If practice is supposed to start at "1:00pm", when will it start? Some variables to consider: the time of year, the temperature, precipitation, big parties the night before, holidays on or near that date, previous actual starting time, how long it's been since someone said "I HATE Frisbee Time, let's show up on time!", the jet stream, just to name a few. As a general rule, if you show up at the stated time, you will be the first one there. Here is how I deal with it: get to practice at or near the stated time, but bring a Hacky Sack, and be prepared to wait for a while for everyone to show up. If you show up "too early" and bitch about nobody being there, the only explanation is that you like to bitch, and have shown up at an appropriate time to do just that. If you think of it that way, Frisbee Time works great for everyone!
