The MAT test detects antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii from animal serum, plasma or tissue fluid. Among the many different methods in detecting T. gondii infection, the MAT test is the simplest and most cost-effective one, and it does not require sepcific equipment. The advantage of this test is that it can be used for mammals and birds in general, the results are easy to read and interpret. Below is an example of a MAT test using plate with U-shapped wells. Samples without pellets at the bottom of wells are positive, samples with pellets are negative.
