If
your family name is Mac Giobuin, Gibbons, Gibbens, Gibbins, FitzGibbons,
MacGibbon, or another spelling, we invite you to join us in this
project. FitzGibbon or MacGibbon may have been the earliest form
of the name in Ireland, but there are multiple origins of our surname
in the British Isles. During our long history, variations in spelling
have occured, adding difficulty to our efforts to find family roots.
We now have the possibility of establishing family relationships
when the paper trail does not exist. If the DNA from your line matches
the DNA of a GIBBONS or FitzGIBBON we know that you share a common ancestor.
The objectives of our project are:
1. To prove or disprove suspected relationships to other lines.
2. To find new relationships for those who have reached a dead end
in their genealogy research.
3. To develop a database that combines DNA results with traditional
genealogy research.
In order to participate in this Y-chromosome DNA project, you must
be a male with one of the surnames mentioned above, or have a living
male with the surname from your line who will submit a DNA sample.
If you would like to participate, or want more information, please
email me, my name is Dennis West and my mother's maiden name is
GIBBONS. My email address is dwest3ATutk.edu (replace
AT with @).
