Robert and Steven about to be thrown into the arena as "noxii." Noxii were not gladiators, they were simply criminals whose death would make the noon intermission a little less dull.

February 2-5, 2007, the Fifth Legion Reenactment Group celebrated its one year anniversary the Roman way at the Pompeii Reborn event in Mobile, Alabama. The event was a great way to celebrate the founding of our group. Most importantly for our members, it was the first time we could sleep in our tent after 3 months of constant work. Eleven of our members traveled south to join more than 60 other Roman reenactors in recreating a Roman market, barbarian encampment, and Roman legionary fort. The encampment was adjacent to the Exploreum Museum, which was displaying artifacts from Pompeii, Italy. The ancient Roman city of Pompeii was covered and well preserved by volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius more than 2000 years ago.

Over 2000 visitors from the museum came through the encampment. Visitors could talk with the reenactors, watch the soldiers drill and practice fighting, watch the gladiatorial games and much more.

After the event had closed down, the legion enjoyed a Roman Feast. The feast was prepared by experts on roman food, and was 100 percent Roman. Many of our members enjoyed their first chance to eat some awesome Roman food. Although, I think pickled carrots will take some getting used to.
