FESTIVUS LEGIONUS, Oct. 12-13 2007

The Festival of the Legion was our first completely hosted event.

Hosted by the Fifth Legion Alaudae and Austin Peay State University, The festival was open to the public Friday and Saturday Oct. 12-13 on the Campus of Austin Peay State University.

What Happened?

The Fifth Legion set up camp to show the students of Austin Peay, and the people of Clarksville the glory that was Rome. This event was not only aimed at informing the public, but to recruiting members for the new group in Clarksville. We had a decent crowd on friday, but a much better crowd Saturday.

The event included the always-open Legionary encampment, drill and weapons demonstrations, kids cohort, Gladiatorial Games, and a Reenactment of the Metrinalia Religious Rite by the Tennessee area Nova Roma.

Just finished inspection and leaving camp, preparing to do hourly drills. Everyone in the photos are Fifth Legion Members.

PILA PARATTI!!! (Prepare to throw Pila)

PARRATI PORRO! (Prepare to charge)

PORRO (CHARGE!) This was one taken late Friday about a few seconds into the charge. By this time we had drilled a LOT during the day and we were able to hold our lines during charges. Holding the line during a charge is something we had been complaining about in the past. BUT WE GOT THE DISCIPLINE TO DO IT AT THE FESTIVUS!!

Tiberius at attention.

Justus Longinus (aka Rusty Myers) looking at the new recruits with contempt. Rusty and Paul Allen of the Legio VI FFC, essentially brought us a camp from 13 hours away, for which we are ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!!! Rusty served as the Primus Pilus Centurion for the event.

Fl. Galerius Aurelianus of the Nova Roman province Austrorientalis reads during a Roman Religious ceremony to celebrate the Meditrinalia and Fontinalia.

Guard that signum, for if you lose it to the enemy, the gods will surely neglect our cries for victory.
