If you are not in a regularly rehearsing brass quintet, you need to have a duet partner with whom you read duets at least 30 minutes per week. Duets will be performed in Solo Class as time allows.
Solo class is graded Satisfactory or NC. To receive Satisfactory, you must attend 8 recitals each semester as per the School of Music recital policy. Secondly, you must attend our weekly Solo Class and prepare assigned exercises and music. Students with more than 2 unexcused absences will receive NC.
You will be given a final solo class performance ÒgradeÓ that will factor into your lesson grade. Your grade for each solo class will reflect your preparation and performance on various technique exercises like Clarke studies, scales, lip slurs, etc. as assigned. It will also reflect your performance on etudes, solos, excerpts as assigned. Your performance and attentiveness in Solo Class are as important as your lesson, and assignments given in Solo Class should receive attention during your individual lessons.
