35% Solo class attendance and performance
***Attendance at Brass recitals. (You are required to be at all Brass recitals unless excused by me in advance. Your semester grade will drop by 1 letter if you miss two brass recitals. It will drop another letter grade for any recitals missed after the first two.
30% Jury grade (30% of your final grade)
The jury is a 10-minute performance (usually accompanied) for the brass faculty at the end of each semester.
***Two practice hours are required daily.
****You must pass a scale proficiency exam (all major and minor scales and arpeggios memorized) as detailed in the Brass Guide to pass into Trumpet 230. Any student failing the Scale Proficiency will receive a maximum grade of ÒDÓ in applied lessons.
*****You must play in a brass chamber group or have a duet partner to receive a passing grade in your trumpet lesson.
If you must miss a lesson, please notify me in advance. Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence and you will receive an F for that lesson. Three unexcused absences per semester result in an F for the semester grade.
If I must miss a lesson I will always inform you in advance and offer a makeup lesson. You are not required to take a makeup lesson, but it will be offered to you. If I am not in the studio when you arrive, please wait 15 minutes. I will do the same for you! If at the end of 15 minutes teacher or student has not arrived, the other is free to go!
If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of a documented disability or if you have emergency information to share, please contact the Office of Disability Services at 191 Hoskins Library at 974-6087. This will ensure that you are properly registered for services.
