Here are some examples of multimedia projects that I have designed in my instructional technology classes:
| Who Am I: A Career Guessing Game for Kids (PowerPoint Presentation)
This Powerpoint presentation is intended to be a short lead-in activity for a "Career Day" for either kindergarten or first grade. Unbeknownst to the students, the teacher or guidance counselor has invited three people from the local community to come talk to the children about each of their occupations. Before the designated day, the teacher or guidance counselor will have asked the guest speakers to provide three clues or characteristics about their careers which will then be incorporated into the "Who Am I Career Guessing Game."
The Powerpoint presentation itself is fairly simple and brief. The Pink Panther needs the children's help in figuring out the identity of three mystery people. He provides them with three clues and has the children guess the identity of each person. After presenting them with the three clues and the answers, the pink panther thanks the children and then says he has a surprise for them. At that moment, the guest speakers come into the classroom and talk with the children about each of their careers. This will hopefully be in a Q & A type format.
(Note: The three careers (astronomer, actor/actress, and doctor) used in my presentation are only examples. The career selection is left up to the teachers and guidance counselors.) |

Website Evaluation Concept Map (Inspiration)
This concept map was created using the Inspiration program. It essentially diagrams some characteristics took for while evaluating websites. Some of those characteristics include accessibility, authenticity, accuracy, bias, and coverage. Examples of questions to ask while evaluating websites are: (1) Who is the intended audience? (2) Is the language suitable for students? (3) Who is the author of the website? and (3) Is the information "real"? |

Learning Gradekeeper
I co-designed an instructional manual for Gradekeeper, an electronic grading software program, for the teachers at the Tennessee School for the Deaf. The instructional manual was designed using Adobe Pagemaker.
The title page, table of contents, and manual can all can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

My Ideal Life: A Web Quest About Job Seeking for High School Students
This is a webquest designed for high school students. The counselor or teacher will distribute a worksheet to each student. The students will fill out the questionnaire about what they will want to be when they are 35. After completing the questionnaire, the counselor or teacher will inform the students that they can take an assessment online that will help them find the kinds of jobs that will interest them and that they will be good at. Then the instructor will point out the web address for the 'CareerZone" and have the students take the test based on John Holland's RIASEC. The students will pick four of the jobs they appear to be suited for and list them on the chart in the worksheet. Then each student will go to the Occupational Outlook Handbook and answer questions about training, job outlook, and earnings for each job. Subsequently, students will go to the Riley Guide web site and use the Cost Calculator to discover how much it costs to live in the particular area they have chosen. The final analysis is computing hourly wages and cost of living to see how much money each student needs to make, and how much education he/she needs to acquire, in order to approximate the ideal life he/she developed on the original questionnaire. The students will share their findings with one another. |
