About CHERP
The Center for Higher Education Resarch and Policy (CHERP) serves as an interdisciplinary center for research, policy studies, evaluation, technical training, and outreach in postsecondary education, with a particular emphasis on transitions from K-12 education to college, from undergraduate to postgraduate life. Housed in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, CHERP's mission is to conduct empirical research and policy studies on pK-20 educational issues, disseminate findings broadly for various constitents in higher education, translate findings into interpretable policy recommendations, and to leverage knowledge produced through the Center's various activities to support the University's tripartite mission. CHERP was founded in 2008; Dr. Terrell Strayhorn serves as its first Director.
The Center's research program centers on a variety of issues including access and equity in education, social justice, college student retention and success, college administration, assessment, international higher education, and the role of federal and state policies on postsecondary education.
