Commission for Blacks
The Commission for Blacks is appointed by the Chancellor to advice on planning, implementation and evaluation of University Programs, policies, and services as they relate to Black students, faculty and staff.The commission relates administratively to the Director of Diversity Resources and Educational Services.
The Commission
- Serves as a channel for improving human relations on the campus
- Advises and consults with University officials on the concerns for Blacks
- Assists in the evaluation and implementation of Diversity Plan
- Recommends changes in or additions to existing policies and procedures
that will
reflect Black concerns
- Makes suggestions concerning the coordination of new and existing
academic and extracurricular programs related to Blacks
- Recommends and encourages research to identify the concerns, problems
and programs of Blacks on the campus
- Assesses on a continuing basis the status of Blacks on the campus
- Aides in communicating the interests of Blacks throughout the University
community and encourages Black involvement in all aspects of campus
life.
Commission Composition
The Commission shall be appointed annually by the chancellor.
The Commission is composed of the chairperson, a proportionate number
of faculty and staff, co chair person and three students. Members are
representative of the various colleges, schools and administrative units
of the University. The Vice Chancellor for Administrative units of the
University. The Vice Chancellor Student Affairs (or his/her designee),
the Executive Director of Human Resources, the office of Equity &
Diversity, and the chairs of the Commission of Women and the Commission
for LGBT and Faculty senate chair(or his/her designee).
