Ceremony Details
Arrival Time
Graduates should plan to arrive at the Knoxville Convention Center and be fully gowned by 8:30 a.m. Please allow sufficient travel time. The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes.
Location
Enter the Knoxville Convention Center from the main entrance on Clinch Avenue. You will enter on the Third Floor. Your guests will take either the escalators or the elevator to the First Floor and follow the signs to Exhibit Hall A. Once inside, send you guests to their seats, then proceed directly to the graduate registration table. The graduate registration table will be located on the Second Floor.
Upon Arrival
Graduates will remain in a holding room on the second floor until the processional begins. Graduates will begin lining up for the processional by department at 9 a.m. Graduates should come dressed in their formal graduation attire.
All cell phones must be turned off as soon as you enter the seating area. Please refrain from cell phone use before and during the ceremony.
Guest Seating
No tickets are required. Unlimited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The facilities will be opened one hour before the ceremony begins. Guests are encouraged to enter the Knoxville Convention Center from the main entrance on Clinch Avenue.
Graduate Seating
All graduates will process into the Exhibit Hall beginning at 9:30 a.m. Seating will be alphabetical by department. Ushers will prompt graduates when to rise and move toward the stage.
Staging
Once on stage you will hand your index card to the Department Head who will read your name and proceed to accept congratulations from the Dean and the Department Head. You will receive a diploma tube with a letter of congratulations from the Dean.
Photography
As a courtesy to all in attendance, please have your guests refrain from advancing to the front of the stage to take photos as you are walking across. A professional photographer will be taking photographs as you shake hands with the dean on stage. There will be a second photographer as you leave the stage who will take your photograph alone.
Information about ordering photographs will be available in a graduation information packet that will be available beginning May1. Please stop by Glenda Noe’s office in A312A Bailey Education Complex anytime after May 1st to pick up your information packet.
Adjournment
After you have your photographs taken, please return to your designated seating area and remain seated until the conclusion of the ceremony. Do not leave any personal items or valuables unattended at any time during the ceremony. Once the ceremony has been adjourned, you may meet your guests and make your departure from the Convention Center.
