Best Buddies Mission
OUR PURPOSE IS TO:
Promote Friendships between UT students and clients of the Sertoma Center who have mental
disabilities
Encourage an attitude of friendship and understanding in the way Knoxville citizens and UT
students view people with disabilities
Help foster feelings of independence and self-worth in our Buddies and ourselves, and to foster a strong belief in community service in College Buddies
WITH THESE PURPOSES IN MIND, WE PLEDGE TO:
Keep our promises and commitments to our Buddies and to hold each other accountable to
these commitments
Hold campus and city-wide events to promote awareness of the potential found in individuals
who have developmental disabilities
Conduct ourselves in manners becoming of an organization that seeks to serve other people
|
Making A Difference
Best Buddies is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with
mental retardation by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships. Best Buddies envisions
a world where people with disabilities are so successfully integrated into our schools, our
workplaces, and our communities that our services will be unnecessary.
Until that day, our vision is to educate high school and college students, community
citizens, and employers about the needs and abilities of people with mental retardation.
The challenge is astounding, but with the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors,
it is attainable.
