1. Why is UTK replacing the old student information system?

An assessment of our current information systems indicated that they consist of fragmented processes and separate databases, which are difficult to manage and often do not provide the necessary functionality for a modern university. In addition, the Unive rsity is faced with the year 2000 compliance problem and current student information systems need to be brought to a new level of compliance which meet the requirements for use in the new millennium.

2. When will training start for users (i.e., those users not in workgroups)?

UTK staff will begin training in the Spring of 1999, with training conducted by the workgroup members currently being trained. Training has already begun for the Financial Aid and Recruiting areas.

3. When will the web interface for Banner 2000 appear?

Present plans call for the web interface to be the last of the Banner components to be implemented; all of the other components need to be successfully implemented and be compatible before a web interface can be developed.

4. What are the system requirements?

Desktop computers will need to have a 486 or better processor, at least 16 meg of RAM, and use Windows 95 or Windows NT as their operating system. There are solutions being reviewed that will allow less-powerful workstations and 'dumb' terminals (VT320's, for example) to have Banner access, but, as of yet, no decision has been reached on those.

5. Is Banner 2000 Year 2000-compliant?

Yes; a major rationale for purchasing the Banner 2000 system was its Y2K compliance.

6. How much of the technology fee has been used to pay for Banner 2000?

No technology fee money has been used in support of Banner 2000.
