Hiking & Health Study TVA's NOx & SO2 controls Visual Basic Class
Smoky Mountain Hiker & Health Study Volunteers

An activity combined with adventure and fun; an activity that helped in an air quality and health effects' study and an activity that created a self realization within every volunteer on the link health effects associated with bad air quality - Yes! that marked the grand opening of our student chapter's efforts to spread the word about air quality.

The Student Chapter participated in the health effects study conducted by the Air Quality Research Group and the Health & Safety Group at UTK and two other universities. It involved a 5 mile hike along the appalachian trial starting at Clingmans Dome.  Each person monitored his/her pulse before, during and after the hike.  In addition, the hikers took a forced exhalation volume (FEV) test before and after the hike.

A group of 12 hikers, from a wide variety of academic fields, volunteered to be a part of this great study.
