From Dr. Ilsa Schwarz The University of Tennessee Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, located in Knoxville, Tennessee, offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate education in audiology and speech-language pathology. Our academic programs emphasize excellence in clinical practice and advanced research. The University of Tennessee is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive institution and is the flagship research university of the state. Our graduate programs in audiology and speech pathology are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech Pathology. Our first master's degrees in audiology and speech pathology were awarded in 1963, and the first doctoral degrees in hearing and speech science in 1970. In 2003, the Au.D. doctoral program in audiology was successfully launched. The Department’s standard for excellence has been consistently affirmed by our graduates, who continue to hold prestigious positions in all areas of our field. We are extremely proud of their achievements as clinicians, educators, and researchers. We feel confident that our program provides the foundation necessary for success.
