Sculpture

The sculpture area offers instruction in three dimensional art from foundation to graduate level . Some courses are media-specific such as steel sculpture (welding) or metal casting; some are thematic such as figure modeling; and others are for general development of sculptural ideas. In upper division work, the emphasis is on personal expression and growth employing a variety of materials and techniques. Ocasional special topics courses or independent study provide opportunities to connect spatial art to other disciplines.

Sculpture facilities consist of a foundations classroom, a clay and plaster room, a critique/installation/exhibit room, a very large well equipped metal fabrication space with a bridge crane connecting to an outdoor work space, and a foundry. There is also access to a fine wood working shop. All the sculpture spaces interconnect, fostering a flow of ideas and sense of community among students at all levels.
