Alumnus Mike Fitts Honored with UT Alumni Service Award
College of Architecture and Design alumnus Mike Fitts was honored last month with the University of Tennessee Alumni Award. The award recognizes exceptional service or longterm continuing service and leadership to the University of Tennessee. It is designed to publicly acknowledge individuals or organizations who have given significant amounts of time, talent or resources to their alma mater. Mike currently serves as the State Architect for Tennessee, but he also holds law and engineering degrees, which is not only uncommon in the architecture profession, but also extremely impressive. In his role for the state, he has had a significant, positive impact on the quality of public facilities and the design review process.
According to the McRae, Fitts has "been a tireless and active supporter for the college for, literally, decades.”
Fitts is an enthusiastic mentor for student interns in his office in Nashville and he has been a mentor to many students, guiding them in their career path. He returns to campus often to serve on juries to evaluate and judge student projects and previously served on the College of Architecture and Design Board of Advisors.
In 2007 Fitts was awarded the Distinguished AIA Thomas Jefferson Award at the AIA National Convention for his work in public service on behalf of the profession.
The college thanks Mike Fitts for his commitment to the continued excellence of the college.
