LIFT UP FAQ’s

Q:  What does LIFT UP mean?

A:  LIFT UP is an acronym for “Living In Faith Together United in Praise”  It is appropriately named as we come together to lift up our voices, hearts and minds to the Lord for His glory.

Q:  What is the point of LIFT UP?

A: LIFT UP’s purpose is to support each other in following Christ no matter where we might individually be on our faith walk, and to gain wisdom and direction for our life!

Q:  How did LIFT UP start?

A:  LIFT UP started with four students talking about their dreams of a new way to worship and fellowship at John 23rd.  Since then, through the dedication of fellow Christians and the support of the student community, LIFT UP has become the fastest growing college ministry offered by John 23rd.

Q:  What do we do at LIFT UP?

A:  The Completely student led night consists of singing contemporary Christian music led by a live band.  This is followed by a scripture reading and discussion (we are currently reading Paul's letter to the Romans).  Finally the night is ended in song and prayer.   A fellowship opportunity will always be available afterward for anyone who would like to join us.

Q:  Who are you people?!

A:  We are not biblical scholars.  We’re here to help one another understand and respond to God’s word.  This semester we are using “Acts:  The Good News of the Holy Spirit” a Six Week Study by Kevin Perrotta for guidance.

Q:  Do I have to read before each meeting?

A:  Not necessarily.  However, the reading for the following week will be posted with supplemental study questions for a more in depth study.

Q:  What if I miss a LIFT UP night?

A:  We’re all busy, and we don’t expect everyone to be able to make it to every LIFT UP.  However, the bible studies do build on each other each week.  You are welcome to come at any point in the semester!  The doors are always open!

Q:  What if I share a personal story that I don’t want the whole world to know?

A:  Think of LIFT UP as a safe-haven from the outside world.  We encourage everyone to share especially in small groups! Everything that is said within the group stays in the group.

Q:  Is LIFT UP its own organization?

A:  LIFT UP is a ministry Supported by CSA and supported Fr. Eric.

Q:  When does LIFT UP meet?

A:  LIFT UP meets every other Thursday of each month from 9pm-10pm at John XXIII in the Paulist Room.
