The Interest Meet was a Great Success

We began with a slide show which discussed APICS and its benefits. You may see this presentation here. Also, download our agenda.  Here are some good bullet points

  • APICS used to stand for American Production and Inventory Control System
  • now APICS is called the Educational Society for Resource Management so they are not constrained to the inventory ideals
  • they teach practitioners about supply chain management techniques
  • 70,000 individual members
  • 20,000 companies are members
  • 61,900 certified individuals
  • 3 certification programs
  • CPIM is the most popular form of certification
  • certification requires 5 tests (each cost $100) - we are discussing buying the books and letting our members check them out for free
  • East Tennessee Parent Chapter
  • 160 members from over 100 firms
  • Professional Development Meetings
  • September - May
  • 1/2 price for students ($10 instead of $20) - includes dinner
  • Great networking opportunity
  • Monthly newsletter
  • Mentoring program - pairs a student with a member of industry with similar interest
  • We will keep you updated via email and this website
  • We asked everyone what they would like to learn more about and here is the list so far:
    • Purchasing & procurement
    • Workforce management
    • Shopfloor issues
    • Professional development skills
    • Tour of Dell
  • We asked if anyone would like to be on the board. The open positions are
  • VP Membership - trying to build the membership base at UT
  • VP Programs - lining up lectures or tours
  • VP Passport - keep tabs on how our chapter is organized and how we may be better. We get credit and potential $ for this.
  • Treasurer - keep the bank records
  • Secretary - keep records of our meetings and events. This helps with the passport.
  • VP Communication & Publicity - getting the word out about our meetings
  • VP Technology - maintaining website when new events are planned
  • We have had several students offer to fill these positions. Please let us know if you would like to participate on the board.
  • Our next meeting is a tour at CVS Distribution Facility on October 8
  • You may apply for APICS via our website and download the .pdf application on the home page or under "How to Become a Member" on the left hand side.
  • If you have any suggestions, questions, or want to be on the board, please email us at apics@utk.edu.

Visit the East Tennessee APICS Professional Chapter Web Site

Visit our parent chapter's web site at http://www.apics-knoxville.org.  The set up of the site is fairly similar to this site since the student and professional chapters are trying to integrate their efforts.  Stay up to date on all of the latest meetings and learning capabilities through APICS.

Please visit the site and feel free to provide feedback about how our members will be better served by the web site.
