Although Hans Christian Andersen wrote several novels and poems, he is best known
today for his fairy tales, which is why he is often
referred to as the father of the modern fairy tale
[1].
Among the most famous of his stories are The Ugly Duckling,
The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina, and, of course, The Emperor's New Clothes.
While most of Andersen's tales are based on Danish folk tales, some have other origins, including The Emperor's New Clothes, which
is based on medieval European literature [2].
It was first published in 1837, as part of Fairy Tales, Told for Children
[3]. |
