The Gamma Lambda chapter of Alpha Xi Delta holds a yearly teddy-bear drive. Around the same time, the local alumnae generously sponsor a special sisterhood treat: a day at Build-a-Bear. Every sister makes a bear, and puts a special wish for children inside. The bears we build, along with the donated bears, are given to local hospitals, Boys and Girls Clubs, Fire Departments, and the Red Cross to help brighten a child's day.
Alpha Xi Delta's interest in children and their special needs led us to adopt Choose Children, a initiative that emphasizes voluntary service in all areas of child well-being. Choose Children isn't an organization - it's an idea.
Unlike many other Greek organizations, Alpha Xi Delta is not exclusively linked with one philanthropic organization. Alpha Xi Delta gives members the flexibility to look in their communities and decide how they can best benefit children. For some chapters it's sponsoring a football tournament to raise money for a local organization; for others it's spending time tutoring children at an after-school program. Some chapters choose to work with children at a battered women's shelter, while others entertain patients in the pediatric wing of a hospital. No matter what activity a chapter, association or individual chooses, the impact that Alpha Xi Deltas have on children in their communities is unmatched.
Alpha Xi Delta also takes pride in participating in other University sponsored philanthropies. AXiD has continuously participated in or supported the following: Relay for Life, Sigma Chi's "Derby Days," Delta Tau Delta's "Delt Recess" and "Delt Cup," Alpha Gamma Rho's "Mudbowl," Lambda Chi Alpha's "Watermelon Bust," Farmhouse's Pig Roast, Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Boxing Tournament, and many more.
