Links to Paleoanthropological and Evolutionary Sites of Interest
Paleoanthropology sites:
The Talk.Origins
Archive Fossil Hominid FAQ
From the home page: "These web pages are intended to refute creationist
claims that there is no evidence for human evolution. To do this, it is
first necessary to summarize the current thinking about human evolution
and the fossil evidence supporting it. If you are not interested in creationism,
you can read only those pages. If you are only interested in creationism,
you can skip to the pages on creationist arguments; they will contain links
to the fossils under discussion when necessary."
Take the Lucy
Test!
From the home page: "Welcome to The Lucy Test! This is your chance
to evaluate some of the fossil evidence for Australopithecus afarensis,
an extinct
primate that some say is a transition between humans and apes. Are
you tired of the bias on both sides? Then just answer the questions below
and this page will score your results. Take The Lucy Test!"
Institute
of Human Origins
From their home page: "The Institute of Human Origins is a non-profit,
multidisciplinary research organization, affiliated with Arizona State
University, dedicated to the recovery and analysis of the fossil evidence
for human evolution. IHO seeks to provide a singular research environment
for leading investigators of paleoanthropology and, through the coordinated
interaction of scientists, strives to allocate its resources strategically
to research on the most important questions yet to be answered regarding
the course, cause, and timing of biological and behavioral events in human
evolution."
Evolutionary sites:
The Talk.Origins Archive
From their home page: "Talk.origins is a Usenet newsgroup devoted to
the discussion and debate of biological and physical origins.
Most discussions in the newsgroup center on the creation/evolution
controversy, but other topics of discussion include the origin of life,
geology, biology, catastrophism, cosmology and theology."
Darwin Day at the University of Tennessee
From their home page: "The Tennessee
Darwin Coalition was founded with the express interest of strengthening
standards of intellectual honesty and preserving the integrity of genuine
scientific inquiry in our public schools. In light of the notorious environment
of anti-evolution sentiment here in
Tennessee, we have organized to educate the public about the importance
of keeping the unifying principles of biological evolution as integral
components of any school curriculum. On February 12th of 1997, the
187th birthday of Charles Robert Darwin, we celebrated the legacy of
this most accomplished naturalist, writer and evolutionary biologist.
Darwin Day 1997 was just the first of our annual Darwin Day
celebrations. Please take the time to browse our web and see what the
TDC is currently up to."
National
Center for Science Education
From their home page: "Welcome to the homepage of the National Center
for Science Education, Inc. --NCSE -- a nonprofit, tax-exempt membership
organization working to defend the teaching of evolution against sectarian
religious attack. We are a nationally-recognized
clearinghouse for information and advice to keep evolution in the science
classroom and "scientific creationism" out. While there are
organizations that oppose "scientific creationism" as part of their
general goals (such as good science education, or separation of
church and state), NCSE is the only national organization that specializes
in this issue. When teachers, parents, school boards, the
press and others need information and help, they turn to NCSE. While
most of NCSE's work involves defending evolution against attacks, we also
work to increase public understanding of evolution and science "as a way
of knowing." We also have programs to help teachers who want to improve
their teaching of evolution. Here you'll find information and resources
for all these activities."
