The prerequisite for Participation in the Mini-Term Study Abroad in Tamiahua Veracruz, Mexico requires students to enroll spring 2008 for Africana Studies A-450 (Folklore Fieldwork and the Afromestizo on Mexico’s AtlanticCoast. This is a (3) credit course which prepares students to do actual field collecting once on-site in Mexico.
ENROLLMENT: MINIMUM 12 STUDENTS, MAXIMUM 19 STUDENTS A-491 FOREIGN STUDY (1-3) CREDITS

- Lodging (hotel), breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Lectures
- Excursions (The Pyramids of el Tajin), Museum of Anthropology (home of the giant monolith statues reputed to exhibit Negroid features, a visit to the Universidad Veracruzana to explore the Afro-Library, observe celebration representing the dance of the Negritos, students conduct actual interviews with the inhabitants of Tamiahua, Tuxpan and Papantla, Veracruz. Students visit a 17 th century trapiche (sugar mill) The hotel is on a lagoon that is a dolphin sanctuary, visit 16 th century Hacienda and conduct interviews, and more.
