MIRANDA LEE PAO

Miranda Lee Pao was born February 14, 1936 in Shanghai, Kiangsu, China, and died on August 10, 1995 in the United States. A renowned scholar in the field of Information Science, Dr. Pao was Professor of Information and Library Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she joined the faculty in 1986. She contributed greatly in the area of bibliometric and retrieval related research. Dr. Pao previously had been associate professor, School of Library Science, at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.


Education

An accomplished pianist, Dr. Pao trained at Julliard School of Music, New York City, NY from 1958-60, where she obtained a BS in piano, 1960, and a MS in piano, 1961. She then focused her academic pursuits in the field of information science, at which time she obtained from Case Western Reserve University an MS in library science in 1970, followed by her PhD in 1972.
