Because of the inconclusiveness of research so far which has yielded varying results in some areas, and a paucity of research in other areas, there is a need for more study, more research into the variables connected to computer anxiety and the needs of those who are being initiated into this new technology. The older student, not having had the benefit of early computer learning may require a slightly different learning/teaching approach than the younger K-12 student. And what of the very young student who has no typing ability, but is expected to perform well and quickly on the computer? This is an area that has not received very much attention when considering computer anxiety or success in this new technology.

There is also the question of manual dexterity that some persons have and others do not. Perhaps manual dexterity in others areas could be looked at as a way of predicting success at the computer keyboard. For example, would someone with ability at the piano or guitar or some other activity requiring manual dexterity experience more success at the computer keyboard?

Teaching methods - those which encourage success in computing and those which are apt to reduce computer anxiety need to be addressed. Something as simple as a lesson plan designed to encourage success and optimum learning in a computer class may go a long way towards keeping CA at a minimum.

In line with successful teaching methods, not the least to be considered is the physical layout of the equipment encouraging optimum ease and efficiency of use. Important as well, are keyboards suited to the user and monitors designed to reduce eye strain or physical strain.

All the right teaching methods, equipment or technology cannot be completely successful in reducing computer anxiety, however, without the right attitudes on the part of the support personnel, teachers, lab assistant or all those in power to share their knowledge with the computer anxious. No single strategy, or factor or system is responsible for the appearance or disappearance of CA. A combination of various factors, strategies and personnel can help to create a stress-free computer environment. Computer technology and its effect on our educational system is putting teachers in the position of playing an important in sharing knowledge of computer technology with others and in helping to lessen the appearance of computer anxiety. Further study can help to shed light on factors involved in the development of computer anxiety. By understanding the development of CA, we can also develop strategies for alleviating it. Further study may also have an impact on changing negative attitudes or behaviors associated with computer technology.
