Sharon Barkdoll, Ph.D.
Biography
Sharon Barkdoll is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Special Education Program, Department of Theory and Practice in Education. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1979 with a concentration in Special Education. Sharon began her teaching career in a Knox County, TN Special Education Center serving students with severe emotional and behavioral problems. During her fifteen years at the center she gained experience and expertise in behavior/classroom management, social skills training, and crisis intervention.
In 1991 Sharon earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Tennessee with a concentration in Educational Psychology. She spent the next nine years at a small, private college teaching in the Psychology Program. She retired from the College in 2001 and shortly thereafter, began serving as an adjunct instructor for the Special Education Program at the University of Tennessee. In 2005 she was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in Special Education.
Sharon serves as the Director of the BASE-TN Program and Co-Director of the Modified Summer Institute, teaches courses in Special Education and serves as a mentor for Special Education majors during their Internship year.
