Field Specialties
Modern Chinese history, with a particular interest in the formation of the nation state in China since the late imperial period
Professor Liu specializes in modern Chinese history with a particular interest in the formation of the nation state in China since the late imperial period. Her research and teaching interests also cover East Asia and film and gender studies. Professor Liu completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego in 2002. Her dissertation examines the mass displacement experiences in China during WWII. She has presented papers to the Association of Asian Studies and various graduate conferences.
Before she joined UT, Professor Liu taught upper-division courses at UCSD on 20th-century Chinese literature and cinema. This semester she is offering a modern world history course and an upper-division course on East Asia during the age of imperialism.
