Community Service Officers

Community Service Officers (CSO) function as the “eyes and ears” of the University of Tennessee Police Department. The CSO’s should not become involved with physically detaining people, rather they refer information to the UT Police Department for an appropriate response. The CSO’s have direct communication with the police department by a two-way radio. The CSO’s are clearly identifiable by their uniform and insignia.

The Community Service Officers are given a wide variety of assignments including physical security of garages and buildings, issuing parking citations, or other directed patrol-type assignments. CSO’s do walk to check certain areas, but are usually assigned to a truck or cart-vehicle. CSO assist citizens with after-hours escorts to or from buildings and vehicles. Some CSO’s are assigned to assist with vehicle boosts or unlocks. Generally, CSO’s are assigned to areas where there are high concentrations of students and vehicles.

Contact C.S.O. Supervisor Dennis Danilchuk at 865.974.3114 to inquire about a C.S.O. position at UTPD.
