What is Freshman Council?
Freshman Council is comprised of 40 members of the entering class at the University of Tennessee . The group works on legislative issues concerning the freshman class, as well as planning and participating in various philanthropic and social events throughout the year.

To be a member of Freshman Council, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Be a first time freshman
- Be a full time student at the University of Tennessee
- Maintain good academic standing
Application deadlines for Freshman Council are set in the fall. Twenty females and twenty males are selected for Freshman Council through an application and two-round interview process. The Vice President of SGA selects a committee to review the applications and conduct personal interviews. All applicants are granted an interview which will be done by members of the previous year's Freshman Council and/or by appointees of the Student Body Vice President. At the conclusion of the selection process, all applicants will be notified of their standing.
