REBELS, DREAMERS, AND FOOLS: THE OUTCAST IN RUSSIAN LITERATURE, 1820-1912.
Course Objectives: To achieve a good working knowledge of key works and concepts of 19th Century Russian Literature and Culture; to practice and improve criticial thinking skills; to practice and improve writing skills.

Tests: There will be two in-class
essay tests, each requiring about 800 words of writing.Quantity
of thought and quality of words both count. But please do not
count.
There will be occasional unannounced quizzes.
There will be no final exam.
Although I will pretty much
exclusively use the pronouns "I" and "you" and your actual
names, if you would like me to be aware of any alternative
pronouns I might use were I ever to refer to you in the third
person, please do let me know by email.
Students who have a
disability that requires accommodation(s) should make an

Academic honesty: plagiarism (using another?s thoughts or words without acknowledgement) is against university codes of academic honesty (see Hilltopics, pp. 16-7). I'm good at spotting plagiarized work. Don't do it. If you have questions about what is or isn't plagiarism, please see me.
