Exercise Science is a 120 minimum semester hour science-based program with emphasis on the study of exercise and human movement. Students can benefit from a well-rounded exercise science curriculum which is designed to prepare students for a variety of career options. Many Exercise Science majors pursue careers in wellness/fitness programs in hospitals, corporations or the private sector. Our graduates are also well-prepared to continue with graduate study in exercise physiology, biomechanics or other exercise science specialties. Some students plan to pursue careers in the related fields of physical therapy or athletic training.

Although many of the courses which are required for admission into physical therapy programs are also required in the Exercise Science program, it should be noted that there is no affiliation between the Exercise Science program and any physical therapy school or program. Students interested in physical therapy programs are encouraged to make contact with the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center, Alumni Memorial Building Room 1, relative to specific admission requirements of different programs. Students interested in athletic training should contact the heads of the men's and women's athletic training programs in the respective athletic departments. However, UTK does not have an accredited program in athletic training.
