The Dance Program provides classes and opportunities on many different levels. For students with prior experience or interest in a dance career, there are classes designed to prepare them to meet the current demands of the dance world in performance, composition, and technique. These students receive quality theoretical and technical instruction in more comprehensive areas of dance. For the novice student interested in acquiring basic knowledge and skill in dance, there are classes which will allow them to experience and enjoy the asthetics of dance.
The Dance Program is presently located in the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Leisure Studies. Courses in this program are available to students throughout the University regardless of college or major area of study. A Dance Minor offers the options of an emphasis in either performance or pedagogy (teaching). Performance opportunities are available to all University students through the University of Tennessee Dance Company. Auditions for this performing group are held each fall and a concert and other performances are presented throughout the year.
