Dr. Joy T. DeSensi

Professor and Department Head

Dr. DeSensi teaches graduate courses in Sport Sociology, Women, Sport, and Culture, and Ethics in Sport Management. Her primary scholarly interests include the socio-cultural aspects of sport, including gender, race, and ethnicity and multiculturalism. She is the author of Ethics and Morality in Sport Management (3 rd ed) along with Dr. Danny Rosenberg and has authored numerous scholarly articles and book chapters in her fields.

Dr. DeSensi is the Editor of Quest - the scholarly journal of the National Association of Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education and has also served as Editor of the Journal of Sport Management and the Women in Physical Activity and Sport Journal. She has served as President of the International Association for the Philosophy of Sport, the National Association for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education, the Southern Academy of Women in Physical Activity, Sport, and Health, and is a Founding Member of the North American Society for Sport Management and served on the Board of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport. Among her recognitions are the UT Chancellor’s Award for Research and Creative Achievements, the UT National Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in addition to Distinguished Lecture Awards from professional organizations and other universities.
